Swiss skier Odermatt wins fourth overall crystal globe

Swiss skier Marco Odermatt won a fourth consecutive World Cup overall crystal globe on Saturday by finishing second in the giant slalom in Hafjell behind compatriot Loic Meillard.

Text size:

Odermatt has 1,596 points and a 635-point lead over Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen and cannot be caught with five races left this season.

Second place on the day behind Meillard and ahead of another Swiss skier Thomas Tumler also ensured Odermatt the small crystal globe in the giant slalom discipline for the fourth time.

Odermatt has already secured the super-G globe for the third time.

The 27-year-old became the second skier after Austrian Marcel Hirscher to win the alpine skiing World Cup title four times in a row.

Only Meillard was faster than the Swiss skiing genius in both runs, winning by 0.14 seconds over "Odi" with Tumler 0.23 seconds off the pace in a Swiss podium sweep.

Kristoffersen finished 16th overall more than two seconds behind Meillard after failing to recover from a poor first run.
