Birgit Bessin, member of the Brandenburg Landtag for the AfD (Alternative for Germany), is standing as a direct candidate in the 2025 federal election in constituency 65, ‘Elbe-Elster - Oberspreewald-Lausitz’. Her nomination by the party underlines the great trust she has earned in recent years.

According to several press reports, Bessin is known not only in Brandenburg, but also beyond the state's borders, for her commitment. Particular emphasis is placed on her work for people with disabilities, which she has demonstrated on multiple occasions through concrete relief efforts and personal involvement.

A glance at the outcome of the Brandenburg state election in September 2024 underlines Bessin's success: she won by a clear margin in constituency 38 (including the towns of Ruhland and Ortrand, the cities of Lauchhammer and Schwarzheide, and the municipality of Schipkau), taking 44.3 per cent of the vote. The SPD candidate Martin Höntsch followed in second place with 25.9 per cent. This convincing majority once again secured Birgit Bessin the direct mandate for the state parliament in Potsdam.

In addition, Bessin held the AfD's state chairmanship in Brandenburg from 2022 until René Springer's election in April 2024. During this time, she was able to significantly shape the regional party work and contribute to a significant increase in the AfD's vote in southern Brandenburg. With her new candidacy for the German Bundestag on 23 February 2025, she now wants to continue and expand her political work at the federal level.

Numerous reports in regional and national media underscore Bessin's ongoing commitment to the citizens of her region. Her palpable concern for supporting particularly vulnerable population groups has earned her the respect of many Brandenburg residents. Observers therefore rate her chances of success in representing constituency 65 as a member of the German Bundestag as very high.
